Wedding Tastings!

Today I am talking about one of my favorite things: FOOD!

Since Melanie lives super far away in St. Louis now (thank you google maps for helping me kind of know where that is), she has enlisted the help of her Tampa crew to do wedding tastings. Obviously I am in heaven since eating is one of my top 5 my FAVORITE thing to do. Is professional taste testing a job? Because I need to get into that industry!

I thought it would be fun to do a little review of the tastings we have done (disclaimer: I am the fatass who goes along for the food and doesn’t actually know anything about the details of pricing and what all is included).

Today I will be talking about the first tasting we did, which was at Catering by the Family.

First we sampled a few different hors d’oeuvres.

On my plate is a Buffalo Chicken Bite, Brie and Raspberry in a Phyllo Tart, Pig in a Blanket, and a Macaroni and Cheese Bite. Not pictured, I also had a Crab Stuffed Mushroom.

The Buffalo Chicken Bite was good. I have just recently started to like blue cheese and I still don’t love it, so this did have a bite more blue cheese than I would have liked. It was a bit spicy (not a problem for me, since I LOVE spice) and the buffalo flavor was good.

I normally LOVE brie, however, these brie and raspberry bites were not my favorite. They would good, but not great. I wish the cheese had been warmer and more gooey.

The Pigs in the Blanket were AH-MAZ-ING. Pigs in a Blanket are usually a huge hit, but to me they aren’t usually anything too special. However, these were probably some of the best pigs in a blanket I have ever tried. The pastry was so huge and fluffy and you could tell it was made from scratch. These were awesome and I hope she has these are her wedding because I will probably consume about 98% of them.

I was really excited to try the Macaroni n Cheese bites, but I was honestly a little disappointed. These were the standard ones and they do have another type that is one step up, so I think I would have enjoyed those much more. I LOVE macaroni and cheese, so I was sad that I did not like these more. To me, they just tasted like overly fried Kraft mac n cheese. I think they would be a huge hit with kids though.

The Crab Stuffed Mushrooms were also amazing! I love stuffed mushrooms of any type and I love seafood, so this was a perfect combination. I wish I had snapped a picture, but they were huge and overflowing with delicious crab!

Next we sampled some of the entrees and sides. We had Chicken Piccata and Chicken Marsala, Seasonal Vegetable Medley and Glazed Baby Carrots, and Garlic Smashed Potatoes and Parslied Potatoes.

The Chicken Piccata was okay, but it wasn’t really my style. I really liked the Chicken Marsala though. It was lightly breaded and then covered in a delicious Marsala sauce!

Both types of potatoes were awesome! The Garlic Smashed Potatoes were super garlicky and filled with butter (check out that huge pool of butter), which just made them super amazing. They are probably a heart attack in a bowl, but I don’t even care, I could eat them all day!

Both vegetables were also good! I would go with the medley though so that there is a bit more variety. I didn’t snap any pictures of those, but I’m sure you can imagine what vegetables look like haha.

I am super happy Melanie asked me to help taste test because I really think I have found my new calling in life haha. But in all honesty, I am really honored to be part of her wedding and can’t wait for all the planning and festivities over the next year!

What is the best food you have ever had at a wedding?

Anyone know how I become a professional taste tester?

Wedding Festivities!

I keep going MIA on here, but I’m baaaaack!

This past weekend, I went to a wedding in North Carolina, which was absolutely beautiful! Before I get into the wedding recap, I have some other exciting news!

Melanie, one of my best friends in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD (I also think she may be my only blog reader, HI MEL), asked me to be her bridesmaid!!! I can’t wait for all the planning fun and to stand besides you on your big day! WOOHOO!

She’s evil and sent this a WHOLE WEEK before I was allowed to open it. I am the most impatient person ever, so I was dying.

How cute is this?! These pictures really had me cracking up. We look like such babies in them (most of them are from high school!)

Now on to the wedding recap. One of my friends from Junior League got married in Cashiers, NC on Saturday. Her family has a house up there and she spent most of her summers there growing up. It was such a gorgeous location for a wedding and I loved being there for the weekend. I cannot even describe how pretty it was, so I will let the pictures do the talking.

We flew into Asheville Friday night and drove a little over an hour to Cashiers. The drive was a little scary for 2 Florida girls, who never drive in the mountains, but it was beautiful!

Before the wedding on Saturday, we decided to take advantage of the cool weather (high of 75, yes please) and went hiking on Whiteside Mountain. The view was wonderful. This Florida girl was LOVING all the mountains and fresh, cool air.

The wedding itself was in a beautiful canyon. How pretty are those mountains the background?! You can also see the ominous clouds in this picture. Well they decided to open up just as soon as the bridal party started to walk down the aisle. Luckily there were some trees nearby, so we all hung out under the trees for about 10 minutes until the rain passed. It was amazing how the sky completely cleared up and the sun came out and the rest of the evening was absolutely beautiful. I hear rain on a wedding day is good luck, so they are bound to have a long wonderful life together!

How cute are they?! And how gorgeous is her dress?!

Congrats to the beautiful bride!

No wedding would be complete without shots haha. But check out that amazing view in the background!

IMG_2664Overall, it was a wonderful wedding. I am so happy for both of them and I am so glad I got to be there for their special day! The venue, the food, the band, everything was just so perfect. I could tell they spent a ton of time planning every last detail and it was so nice!

After the wedding, we hung around North Carolina for a couple more days and explored. I’ll be back with a recap of those adventures later!

What was the most beautiful wedding you have ever gone to?

Has it ever rained while you were at an outdoor wedding?
